Ecs Dataconnect are specialist suppliers and installers of infrastructure equipment to providers of services for Cloud Infrastructure, Managed Hosting and Business Continuity as well as corporate and institutional clients.

Their reputation for speed of response, helpfulness, pre and after sales support has been built over many years. Yet they lacked any online presence despite their industry.

Ecs Dataconnect needed to move on line to support and further enhance their long held reputation for customer service. Their online presence would include a widespread information resource together with a B2B e-commerce solution with thousands of products and significantly extended customer specific functionality and content. This would ensure the retention of key clients and the ability to provide a unique service to new clients.

Yet it would still need to be easy to manage and update for this small tight knit business team.

Challenges

The core requirement of creating a content rich e-Commerce site required the creation of a wide set of templates to handle a wide range of products and information.

However in addition there were three significant major challenges which needed to be overcome to meet ecs Dataconnect‘s goals:

Integration with SAP Business One – this would enable that key information for sales ledger accounts, buyers, stock and pricing would be accurate and up to date as well as facilitating the direct integration of orders

B2B On line trading – we would need to extend Kentico’s functionality to handle trade accounts and contract pricing

Customer Workflow – a key customer required that the site facilitate significant online work flow for bespoke pricing, budget approvals,

Solution

Red Transact conducted a series of workshops with the client and other significant stakeholders to arrive at a clear and agreed set of requirements. These included all functionality as well as user experience and graphical design considerations for the various user personas.

A new corporate identity was developed and then site templates created for all product types and areas of the site.

In parallel a technical specification was created and agreed for the extensive workflow management requirements and handling, together with the B2B trade account, product segregation and contract pricing requirements. This was greatly aided by our extensive experience in B2B systems and integration.

Finally integration requirements were agreed and configured.

Both Agile and RAD development methodologies were then used to deliver the project in agreed phases refining requirements where necessary to enhance and augment the user experience.

Customer Retention

Ecs managed to retain their key customer by putting this dedicated portal with project management and workflow in place.

Configuration Automation

The system automatically adds items to the order such as Powers Supply Unit configuration or cabinet installation. This is based on individual products added or on basket wide price rules.

Flexibility

Ecs can also add ‘custom products’ created and priced on the fly.

Workflow

Client’s project manager create an order. This then must be amended and approved by the engineers. Then QA approval, and a budget approval is required before the ‘order’ is finally passed to ecs for delivery and installation.
Once ecs have installed, the installation goes through a QA approval process and then finally an invoice approval step before ecs get paid!
